Well my son fits in it. But the owner mentioned a number to him that is not within decent negotiating range of what I am willing to pay.

he'll drop his number or he will never sell it because no one else in their right mind wants it. Shake head

If your son likes it make what you feel is the right offer and let owner think about it I gotten quite a few call backs after some time won’t hurt to put offer out there

The market is quite limited. He may or may not want to sit on it indefinitely. It's not personal to me. I need to be able to get out of it some day. And I don't want to put a price tag on it then that puts me in a position of sitting on it indefinitely.

540 can be built with a GM gen 5 8.2 block and some have gone 4.560 and bigger.

OK, I acquiesce. I never followed or was interested in a gen 5 or 6 BBC, so I am ignorant of their potential. But let me ask of those that are up to speed; what are the percentages of 540's out there that are built on gen 5/6 factory blocks vs aftermarket (Mark IV). Be honest now.

Lastly, I apologize to Bucky for the wrong information. Although it's not a bad idea to know what block one is buying.

No issue. It's only one part of the entire package here.

I paid $300 for my Gen 6 block l, had two broken rods but nothing hurt and ran it for 12 years. It is now my spare motor and running a 548 now in a Dart block. It’s what I stumbled onto long time ago and had a buddy with same block that is a 565 now.

most of the budget priced 540s and such came in GM 502 blocks so there’s probably quite a few I have a 522 and 565 in them

I had a 468 in a racetech dual suspended car 1970 with me in it that went 5.15 in texas in good air.
I also have a 555 shortblock built from a gm 502 block. It could be for sale.
