Residual Valve

I am redoing the brakes on a car I purchased and noticed that there is no residual valve for the front brakes. The master cylinder is in the floor and the front brakes are stock GM disc units. Do I need a residual valve in that line? From what I can remember, I think I do but want to be sure. Thanks.
