Suggestions on new tall deck build
Planning on building a new engine with a tall deck and looking for suggestions on engine size and cylinder heads. I was thinking about a 588 (4.5 bore x 4.625 stroke) with a conventional head. 1950 lb dragster looking to go 4.65-4.75 on alcohol. I appreciate any suggestions.

I run a 598, 4.600 bore 4.5 stroke. Ran 4.74 @ 147 at 2800 DA this past weekend with 277 lbs driver in Miller 4 link car. I believe total weight is over 2000 lbs.

open the bore up to 4.60, let it breath, youll be leaving a bunch of the table with 4.50 bore. for a tall deck at minimum should be a 615 imo.

I have 632 rfd bb3 head runs 4.50s 1900lbs single alky carb.

with that head on my 582 short deck I went best of 4.61. usually 4.68-4.74 locally @ 1860lbs.

NO reason to use a tall deck for a 588... if you have the parts already the go with it. Also as mentioned you are choking things up a bit using that bore size, go at least 4.560. If you have nothing don't build anything smaller than a 615,, or go short deck.

I ran a 565 with Ron's injection, 357 AFR heads in a 1930 pound dragster that went high 50's in good air .
