Mid South Pro Mods on Display at Crockett County High School
Jackson, TN – For Immediate Release Officials of the Mid South Pro Mod Nationals are pleased to announce that the Mid South Pro Modifieds will be on display for students at Crockett County High School in Alamo, Tennessee. On Friday, September 4th from 10 am until 11 am local time, some of the fastest hot rods in the South will be featured to vocational students. Marketing Director Glynn Williford, whose son Taylor is currently a junior at CCHS said, “As an Automotive Vocational Advisory Board Member at CCHS, we see this as a win-win for everyone involved. The students benefit from learning about the math, science and engineering behind some of the fastest automobiles on the planet. These hot rods can reach speeds over 175 mph in less than 5 seconds and it is sight to see!” Jeff Keen, Auto Industry Instructor at Crockett County High said, “This is going to be a one of a kind field trip for our students!” Track Manager Brad Netherton and Mid South Pro Modified organizer Larry Lambert have been instrumental in the wide reaching effort to spread the news regarding this big event on Labor Day Weekend. Plans are for Williford and two drivers to make presentations to an estimated 100 students and then have the vehicles fire their monster sized engines. Mid South Pro Mods on display with minor league baseball team.
The West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx are locked in a tight battle for Southern League Northern Division supremacy and this Friday Night they will have help from some of the wildest monsters on pavement. The Mid South Pro Modified organization is a group of drag racers that will have their hot rods on display at the entrance of Pringles Park this Friday Night. The racers are in town to participate in this weekend’s Mid South Pro Mod Nationals at historic Jackson Dragway in Beech Bluff. When the dreaded Tennessee Smokies are in town, the racers might turn up the heat with their 2000+ horsepower engines and help propel the Jaxx to a needed win on Friday. Featured on display will be 4 vehicles that are capable of reaching 175 miles per hour in less than 5 seconds. They launch down the race course with a 3x gravity g-force acceleration that rivals the Space Shuttle launch. MSPMN Marketing Director Glynn Williford said, “This display is a win-win for everyone involved except the Smokies. The racers hope to help bring more fans to the stands tomorrow night and hope to help the Jaxx smoke their competition!” The hot rods will be available up close for the fans as they arrive at Pringles Park tomorrow night from 6 until 9 pm. The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 7:05 pm local time. Folks the Mid South Pro Mod Nationals took place this weekend and lots of fun was had!
Here are a few final observations. Pro Modified qualifying on Saturday showed us that the track at Jackson can hold high horsepower machines. Jerry Prater's '63 Corvette got down both lanes with an admitted soft tuneup. During Saturday's first session he pedeled the car to a respectable 4.59 169mph in the right lane and came back in the night session for a bracket like consistent 4.55 166 mph. On the Announce Deck, both Racers For Christ Chaplain Allen Posey and I speculated that the car was softened up to get down the track and Prater delivered. On his first pass he pedaled the car and he said that it could have been in the 4.30's had he not had to lift! He proved a lot on the track so far as the tracks ability to hold high horsepower. Speaking of Racers For Christ, it was cool to meet RFC Chaplain Allen Posey this weekend. The RFC has been helping racers for almost 40 years and they are a fantastic organization and a worthy addition to the motorsports family. Allen served yeoman's duty as Chaplain, roving pit reporter and color commentator during the weekend. The Lynch Mob funny car from Nashville made an exhibition pass on Saturday night also. He laid down a sizzling 4.44 in the right lane with a soft tune up. In the bracket portion of Saturday Night's fun had a huge turnout by the bracket racers! Almost 70 Footbrake drivers and almost 50 Super Pro racers took to the track. Overall, the big crowd of spectators got a chance to take in some high horsepower Pro Modifieds and lots of razor close bracket racing action. It was a blast!
