That engine in that weight car should run 6.80s with no problems. Most 6 second cars don't go out and make 400-500 passes a year. While you are correct in the need to pay more attention to the valve train, the short block should be good for 400 runs with steel rods.
The more hp you make, the more work it takes. I think it is worth changing lifters every 125 passes and checking the valve springs is worth it.
When I changed my lifters on my 12* Raptors, I didn't even have to pull the intake.

Paul, check my post again, I said the lifters needed changing at about 125 passes.

As said just dont go crazy with the cam and the thing will live. I might have been a little nutty but I put 2 years on a 632 nitrous motor with 12* profilers. One year on motor one year on nitrous.
Nothing crazy with the spray - 250-300 shot. In 2 years I changed 2 valve springs !! And that is because they got to 310 lbs and not because they broke. Yeah it could make more power with a very aggressive cam - but for what?
I run the isky red zone lifters - ZERO issues. Plus for 280 bucks they rebuild them.
So as said a mild ramp speed cam - good lifters - good springs - keep it around 7800 or so and you will be fine.

Did you buy the motor already or are you thinking of buying ?

Well i was one of the unlucky one's that got a bad batch of the isky lifters, from my understanding that problem is fixed. But my opinion is you have to be putting more of a load on that side of the offset, its pretty obvious, regardless of the brand, and also my opinion its not best for brackett racing, unless the funds are endless...just again my opinion.
