Well not exactly the "only" purpose for a delay box tester.

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

I don't think it applies here. I don't think promoters are trying to cheat anyone. But they aren't doing enough to make sure it is fair for everyone.

IMO it's also came to a point where either the manufacturer representative or a 3rd party verification company should be on hand for the timing system. I'm way more worried about that fiasco than someone with a traction control. Hell I have (honestly) 42 time slips from my blue car at the SFG500 that you'd swear I'm cheating. And it's on gas!

The day of taking the tracks word should be long gone for race promoters in my opinion. You should educate yourself if you are one or have someone on hand who knows and be prepared to make it correct before any cars goes down the track. Changing set ups, tree variations, stage loc, etc in the middle of and event if just unacceptable in my opinion.

Thought I'd bump this to the top after this past weekend's chain of events at Dragway 42. Still amazes me that track owners and operators can be so ignorant about their own facilities. Because of this it hurt SFG Promotions, ultimately it will hurt other promoters and this facility itself. Such a shame as it's a nice place.

Please elaborate on this. I didn't go and didn't have a chance to watch online. I did see some stuff on FB about timing issues and restarting a race.

I was there all 4 days and hope SFG decides on a different track next year for this event. I won every 1st round (2x on Re-Start Friday) and lost every 2nd rd on a RL.

The starting line lights were only one issue. There were other issues. Ask Scotty R about this one as you won’t believe what happened.

I’ve always wondered when tracks spray the VHT down why they don’t cover all the beams that shyt has to get on them...an you never see them wipe them off with at least rubbing alcohol...

Wouldn't a promoter want to arrive a day early and check out the timing system before a big race? Wouldn't his or her contract with the track include a clause about who is responsible for making sure the timing system works, and provide for penalties and/or remedies in the event that it doesn't work?

I would like to think there are to many different winners for one man to be cheating, but it would be nice to be checking just to make sure ,but no one is checking that I have seen.

Can you not just say "as I was told"? I see the obvious from the slip but what won't we believe.

They were there on several occasions prior to this race. Sometimes stuff that never breaks will let you down at the worst time.

The reason both RT’s were so bad is this. I was first to stage immediately after SR2 pre-staged. He took almost the full 10 seconds to stage. When his stage light came on, the top bulb came on with it. There was .010 at best between his stage and the top bulb lighting. I was already locked on the TB button and released it late and was going for my bump down and stopped thinking he’s probably really late. He never had a chance to get his thumb on the TB button after staging and prior to the tree activating.

He went and told the track officials that there is a definite problem with the starting system. They told him it’s working correctly. BS. SR2 was right, but not complaining, just stating a true fact to the officials.

This was not a separate incident. This happened to another that I spoke with and saw the et slip. I’ll bet it happened to others also.

One other thing I dislike is that the et slip does not indicate if autostart is activated.

Thanks for the explanation. So this was top bulb? I guess envisioned from a foot feeder perspective and wasn't sure what was up.

Yes this was top bulb. SR2 said that had he not bumped the TB button he would have been better to FB it off the start line. I agreed and thought he’d probably have won doing this.

Either way, what was happening at this event needs to be made aware of to others. The starting line problems were never fixed but band-aided IMO.

I was contacted by a racer using Grid several weeks ago asking for help with an inconsistent / erratic RT problem in his car. I gave him my opinion of what to check.

He contacted me yesterday and said that after watching the SFG Buckeye Bracket Bash on the web last weekend he has possibly figured out what is wrong with his car. Probably Nothing. He’s been competing at D42 prior to this event and saw much of the same while watching this weekend as what he is experiencing in his racing there prior to this event.

Interesting scenario - does the tree activate exactly 10.000 seconds after the first stage bulb is lit? If so, can this explain why the top bulb activated almost immediately after the second stage bulb? If true, I would say the tree activated correctly IN THIS CASE. Bottom line, I wasn't there and can't speak to any other issues that occurred.

Or is the tree supposed to allow for a delay of some specified time after the second stage bulb is lit, before it activates? I guess what I'm asking is, if SR2 lit his stage bulb 9.99 seconds after the first stage bulb was lit, and the tree activated .01 seconds later, isn't that how it is supposed to work?

Again, I'm not saying the timing system wasn't jacked up, if a lot of veteran racers who were there say it was, then it almost certainly was. I'm just wondering if SR2 didn't put himself in this predicament in this one round by taking so long to stage.

After reading this I have to ask if AutoStart was on?
10 Seconds to Stage after 3 bulbs lit? Sounds to me AutoStart should have timed him out.
