No doubt Very talented and has worked for it.
I cannot wrap my head around that amount of money to play ball. Unreal!! I love baseball and football ( not so much anymore since) but I won’t spend the money to go watch them. TV is just fine.

I love watching Trout play ball and I'm happy he got what he wanted but Harper got the better deal based on the taxes each one will have to pay.

Guess it's a matter of opinion but I find it hard to put that high a value on an "athletically gifted entertainer".

Does he help cure disease?
Does he run into a burning building to save lives?
Does he work the streets at night to fight crime?
Does he serve in our Nations Armed Forces?

It's a matter of opinion; does he really deserve that amount of money?

I agree completely. I watch some sports quite often. Baseball is not one of them but i still feel that most of the athletes are way over paid for PLAYING a game that really in all honestly does nothing to help our nation.

1/2 a BILLION dollars to play baseball.......smh

I'm assuming the ones clapping their hands and patting each other on the back are the same ones screaming for "free" Health Care, College and Housing....Unless you're to ignorant to add 2+2=4 then you must realize there is NO such thing as FREE....SOMEBODY has to pay the bill....
In this case it's the fans....

Dave, did you just complain about someone making as much money as they can on the free market while calling some of us who thought, “if someone will pay it then okay”, liberal leaches? Laughing Hard Or maybe I misunderstood.

"liberal leaches"......wow that does just come out smooth huh? lol

All I was saying is understand where the money he's getting comes from.....it might give you pause next time you get all giddy about an athlete getting ga-zillions of dollars to play games....if $100 tickets don't bother you (as in, $400-$500 to take the wife and kids to a ball game) then never mind....
But remember, the next player is going to want more of course...

Yeah professional athletics is hard to reconcile. I do think they get paid way too much for what they bring to society but on the other hand they can only make what someone is willing to pay.

I think he is a good guy and plays the game right, so on one hand I'm happy to see a good guy getting it instead of some prima donna jerk. On the other hand you are correct. Pricing to see a game is out of hand and out of reach of many people. It's quite the paradox.

My daughter has season tickets to Baltimore baseball and football games. Last 3 years she has rented a room at the Hilton with a balcony overlooking the stadium on opening day so all the nieces and nephews can watch a bottom shelf team. You would be surprised at what some of these sports nuts pay to watch these over paid athletes play a kids game.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there's not a single, solitary fan in the stands at any professional sports league game that is there because somebody held a gun to their head and forced them. Yes, it costs money to go to the games, but you and everybody else has the choice as to whether or not they want to go. When/if enough people stop paying those prices, these big deals will stop happening. But it is capitalism, writ large...they have a product that people want to buy.

If we start dictating and paying what people deserve, it's gonna get pretty heated pretty quick. Does a guy that risks everything and invests his life into a business "deserve" the millions that he makes....or the financial ruin that may ensue?

Do stay at home Mom's deserve a living wage?

Don't get me wrong. I have always had a problem with the amount of money involved with professional sports. But if these athletes can bring fans in who pay the money willingly to watch whatever it is that they do, and the teams are willing to pay. Well, I guess that's what they deserve.

As far as curing a disease: How many years, decades have people donated to cancer research? How many Dr's have worked on it? where is the cure? As my father died of cancer, he looked up the estimated money that the ACS has collected. Just how close are they to curing this medical money maker? Really shouldn't get me started on that one.

These athletes won't get that kind of money if it isn't there. If people didn't pay those ticket prices, the owners will eventually pay less to these people......

Same as the NHRA. You all want to pay $330 or whatever it is to enter a National Event as a Sportsman, keep at-it. That same entry fee would get you into two days of $10k or better to win races and you are treated like they want you there!

We all choose how to spend our money, no one holds a gun to our head.......

Bucky
My sympathy, Sorry for your loss.
I'm not here to incite negativity.

My family too has experienced (as countless others have as well) the loss of family/loved ones to cancer/disease. Actually attended a funeral just yesterday (3/20/19) for one of my brother in laws, cancer took him from our family.

I tend to look at the "donation" of money to a cause (ACS) that is making efforts to "give to humanity" as something that may provide a positive outcome that can and will help humanity. Unfortunately the research business IS A BUSINESS. Still there is the hope that they will responsibly use the funds to one day not only develop treatments but cures. That is if, the money doesn't blind them from the intended purpose...

As far as the market allowing for the million$ paid to athletically gifted entertainers, well that's a side effect of society's distorted sense of priorities I guess. It seems some value their entertainment more than they do their health and well being...

It's a matter of opinion...
