WTF! Good time for a CCW!
Seattle council approved defunding.
Portland already slashed 15m from PD.

Don't get me wrong: As a conservative, I'm all for conserving our tax dollars where efficiencies can be found. But that isn't what this is all about. Yes there are some nefarious intentions by some. Noted. But being very blunt about this.....many of the lefties that are running cities are in way over their heads. They were elected based upon notions, and promises made that not only can they not keep....they didn't even realize what they were promising. There is no leadership ability and no experience with truly running a city. Some of the really clueless ones are taking cues from those what want nothing more than to create havoc. They are going to find themselves in a bad situation I suspect. And their cities will be an even bigger mess than they were given. They all think they have what it takes to drive the buss. But once behind the wheel, they are pleading for assistance from the federal government. They want Trump to keeps his hands off of them, until they are desperate for his help. And somehow, there are great groups of people who simply do not see what is going on.

Let me hop on that "bus" for a few blocks. If the union school teachers don't want to go do their jobs, let's have our tax money back for what we pay to support our local schools. Nobody is getting the service. Shouldn't we get a refund? Teachers shouldn't get paid if they aren't providing the service we have paid into for years,,,,,kids or not. If they are that set that distance learning will be just as good, we don't need those buildings nor the teachers locally. We can each privately choose the best of the online courses offered anywhere. Either they are essential or they aren't. You can't play it both ways.

I wear a mask and follo the guidelines by choice. Being older and retired is really little effort. Entire family is doing same. Wife is retired RN and says federal response is on par with she would expect considering the real danger that exists. She says it may well turnout only a fraction of population at high risk. We will not now for quite sometime as politics is driving some of the response. In some cases maybe a degree of overcaution.

Interesting enough, the left continues with the theme that it has been a disaster. They offer no alternative response? The left does not like Trump but they do not offer any direction that would improve what Trump accomplished prior to chinese plague.

I am a registered independent as I am not fond of portions of GOP. I voted for Trump and will do so again. The left wing types downplay and even ignore the true American dream. I retired early, have minimal advanced education and do whatever I want. I could not accomplish that in a socialist country.

I can't even keep up, I was pretty sure it was the Seattle chief who resigned over funding, not Portland?

I would defer to your wife's education and experience, for matters of health. But what about her economics training? "They say" 10,000 of the worlds poorest people will die a month from starvation, many of which will be children, due to economic collapse. People die everyday, there is a balance to be struck.

She does understand the economics very well. The colateral damage from this will be felt for sometime. She agreed to a point with initial shutdown as hospitals could have quickly become swamped. As she has said thouugh there is no solid playbook for this. We have had no impact other than doing winter projects in heat of summer.

My impression is the left would like to keep everything on edge. I think they may feel it hurts Trump or is a way to correct mounting fiscal issues in states/cities fiscal failures. Could be any combination of factors. They still do not offer any meaningful alternatives.

Police, firre and EMS services are not a privilege, that is why we pay taxes. Social Security for people who retire are also not federal handouts but an annuity. I have had to first the older grandkids, then more forcefully with their parents. My oldest grandson thought we could not afford something because we were retired and on welfare. Great things school teaches these days.

Muggs I think that those are reasonable thoughts/opinions. Much of which I agree with if not all.
I don't want to split hairs with the social security. But I see people often taking issue with it being called an entitlement. Well, you paid in and now you are entitled to the pay out. I'm not sure that label is entirely incorrect. Welfare is a stretch. But I'm not a big fan of the program, which forcibly takes your money, leaving you with little choice later than to take it as they see fit to give it to you. If they had left you with your money, you could have invested it as you see fit. Unfortunately in our country, we have two things. One is a fair amount of our population who is unwilling or unable to save. The other is a significant portion of our population who is unwilling to let those who didn't save to struggle on their own. It seems wrong to many to live in a country that has so much, to let people who have little suffer....regardless of how the found themselves in that lot in life. So we force everyone to pay into a retirement account that is run by a government who has not been operating under a balanced budget for most of my time on this earth. Well that makes a lot of sense.
