I hadn't been to an NHRA National event for awhile, but I was at Brainerd a few weeks ago.
I have to admit that I thought they were sinking, but after attending that event, they are still on solid ground.
The Nitromall was absolutely packed with people buying t-shirts and just an all around great crowd.
And this was with Top Fuel and Funny Car not even having a 16 car field in each.
25 Top Fuel Dragsters ready to compete at Indy.Weather looks perfect.
It looks like it will be a fantastic show and good luck to all competitors. If I could qualify in Stock Eliminator, I would be there too.

It’s Indy and without question drag racing is dying. In 10 years from now, stock and super stock will be decimated.

I think it’s pretty simple. Bring a West Coast National with the same format as The US Nats and it will draw. Do the same for the East Coast and watch what happens. Needs to be in Vegas as California is out of the question.

137 stockers last year if I’m correct. Not worthy

Just like most things in the World these days, winning Indy is what it used to be.....

I was just talking to a friend last night about NHRA class racing. I do wonder what will become of Super Stock/Stock 10-15 years from now.

Young racers seem to go bracket racing rather than Class racing these days. I don't think the .90 classes are in jeopardy, due to a less strict ruleset.

NHRA has been "dying" since about three days after Wally and crew kicked it off....I guess if people keep repeating the same old rehashed bull****, it might eventually come true.

I'm old and went to Indy in 1966 to race !
I/SA class runner up

I'm watching Stock right now and they are FLYING...1 second under or you're slow

No matter what it's still impressive to me to run that fast with some limited engine modification rules

Yes they spend a lot of money to do it but to each his own and yes it is an older group but still hugely popular with good car counts at many events....

Indy once could have 1000 or more cars so they are doing just fine today after many, many years.

To deny that drag racing as a whole is dying no mind sportsman class racing, no mind bracket racing is just ignoring the obvious starting with there is no new blood coming in this sport and very few 2nd generation racers and of those fewer yet stay with it after they are married and/or with kids of their own.

Pretty sure economy or lack of probably has nothing to do with it. Throw in a lack of aprts or anything else in this country nowdays and seems pretty easy to see why car count would be way down.

That is a given with the state of our society and the economics of the sport and our govt overall wanting to KILL anything fueled by hydrocarbons....

Enjoy it while you can and I/we have been fortunate to be in it during it's golden years.....

I was at Indy when S/G had way over 200 cars in rd 1 around 1985......and bracket racing at some races had so many cars they had to close the gates to new entries.

Those days are mostly long gone.....BUT some events still pack them in......

Many economists predict a WHOPPER of a recession in 2023.

This might be an Indy to remember for quite some time.

Great history Rich.
And you had a blast doing that I bet! Huge accomplishment! Not worthy
Keeps me busy. Stock is Comp 30 years ago now. . I’m having a new set of Edelbrock heads done now. Thinking of moving up a tad.. I’ve got three sets of 291 Little stock heads and one 840 Tilburg/Little set. Getting prepared! Working on one more block with S&S.
I think things will go South / East here and stay healthy anywhere but Ca.
