Going from your words it’s a new tire? That didn’t hold up well?

I don't follow NAPCAR, but the new chassis / wheel / tire package has been an abysmal failure.
From the 5 minutes I've watched, if you slide the tires they pop, then the car is stuck on the ground.
18" alloy wheel I think, with the single center nut, because after 50 years, it's too tough to deal with 5 lug nuts.

Anyway, Goodyear brings the tires NAPCAR tells them to. Nothing they can do about NAPCAR requiring the wrong stuff.

Anyone else remember the 8 lap tires from the Brickyard that one year?

Nascrap continues to try to make the cars more equal. A lot of the changes are detrimental to safety and the car. Whatever happened to the minimum clearance rule they had? And why 1 center nut instead of the tried and true 5 nut wheel? Why 18" tire instead of 15" tire? The new tire and wheel have to be more expensive.
Nascrap makes these changes and NHRA comes along later and say's why don't we make some wholesale changes too?
Neither organization is helping the sport.

I was wondering how this one lug nut deal was going to work out - with the size / weight of the cars compared to where you usually see this (INDY, F1, etc) - with the right front bearing a good portion of the load into turns - the amound of force on that assembly alone has to be incredible.

I get the whole quicker change, pretty much the elimination of the missing lug nut issue (if you are missing one you are not going anywhere reaall quick lol), yeah may be safer for the crew guys in some respects (the overall danger of the whole pit stop is not reduced at all - so how big of an improvement factor it is in itself, is anyone's guess), and without diving into all the engineering behind it some increased stability on the track.

But as we have seen from GY in the past - they can deliver a shyt tire at the drop of a hat (in any auto sport) - and I do remember the Brickyard 10 lap heat 500 race. Someone missed the "slide" factor or whatever you want to call it on the material strength - hence some of the failures we have seen.

Talking about the single lug nut made me think about the past. I would see the cars spin over the spent lug nuts and shoot them out behind the car.

I always wondered how often crew guys would get hit with them. That would have to suck.

I suspect the tire failures are due to rear toe settings. Recall that these cars have IRS with toe links on the rear suspension. They may abusing toe settings in an attempt to make the cars turn better.
