Well I did it!
I bought hearing aides and I have to tell you; Wow- I am amazed!
Kaiser wanted way too much so I put it off. I didn’t think I was that bad but to sum it up, I’ve lost the treble in my hearing. That means voice clarity, engine or car noise you won’t pick up or not hear anything in an emergency situation.
Went to Costco and did their testing. Didn’t take very long and they gave me a set to walk around the store and test them. Holy crap I could hear the bad wheel bearings in the carts. My voice sounded different!
We talked about expensive units, mid units. They didn’t feel I need the top of the line for my loss. Nor did I. I settled on their 1399$ special. I picked the color I wanted and a week later they were in.
The appointment lasted about 50 min , more tests and fitting. Pretty cool deal.
The cool part is; Bluetooth to my IPhone, answers calls and you can play music.
To answer your question, no it does not have the wife mute button! I got smacked for that!
Very easy to put in too!
So that’s my story!

The music thing sounds cool!!

I'm trying to preserve what I have for now. I have seen noise canceling ear buds that look interesting. Anyone have experience with using these for hearing protection? One ad that pops up for me in facebook shows people shooting with them.

I, like Bucky, am trying to get by without going to get hearing aids for now. My wife said I was ignoring her, but I just couldnt hear her. Went to the ear doc and they said I have normal old age hearing loss, and the higher decibles like womens voices are getting harder to hear. I ran across an over the ear piece that my MIL had while she was alive, I tried it while watching tv and went from 70-75 volume to 50 volume which my wife likes the volume at. I just wear it while watching tv like my reading glassed, just used when needed.

That’s awesome Barry. My wife is deaf, I’ve been begging her to go get something done. I’m gonna figure out how to use the grand baby as an excuse. Honey, the baby is talking to you, didn’t you hear her? Maybe that will work!

I may have to break down and try it for myself. Seeing I have to turn on the closed caption on when I watch a movie just so I can understand what the hell they're saying lol.

I've had aids since 2002. In the canal as I refused to have something hanging off my ear (vanity I suppose)They were issued by the Army. I know I could hear my soldiers talking from my office. They used to tease me by talking about me just to see how loud they had to be for me to hear them. lol
Now I only wear them if I go someplace that I need to pay attention. I use cordless headsets to watch TV.

Barry,

Good to hear you like them!

I need some, but the VA keeps telling me I don't need them. When I go to non-VA hearing appointments, they tell me I'm close to deaf in my right ear & my left ear is not much better. I guess I'll go without until the VA can get there shyt together.

Try this. Go to the VA website (My Benefits) an fill out requesting a re-evaluation of your disabilities for hearing. They will make appointments with a hearing doctor and it will be submitted to VA. You should submit the non VA doctors test results to them when you submit for evaluation. Then you should be able to take that to the VA hospital and get hearing aids.

Since mine were issued while I was active duty I have received 2 sets of aids, and I get batteries as well.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Fern, Both sets of mine work very well. I got my second set because I lost the first ones during a move..

Mine is left ear bad right seems ok. Amazing to most who have watched me bend over to listen to pipes of funny car or dragster.

Figure it is in the future. Both parent have hearing issues, well unless you are asking them.
I hear my wife all the time except when it is something I would rather just ignore. LOL
