Killin' Time - What Was Your Best Losing Package?
I guess if we wear this one out, we can start one about best winning packages... Big Grin
Division V ET Finals, I think it was 2004. A friend in S/P came back from Round 1 shaking his head. Had a .001 package and lost. I couldn't hardly believe it. I was running Sportsman, and had the same thing happen to me in Rd 2. The time slips back then only went to 3 decimals on R/T, and 4 decimals on E.T. Was .000 and dead-on with a 9. My losing MOV was .0007, opponent was also trip-zip, dead-2 Roll Eyes

Don't remember year, around 2013, D2, Beech Bend, S/C 3rd round had a .0001 pkg. My opponent dead perfect .000 on the tree, 9.0000. The perfect run. What can you say? BTW, neither of us lifted and we were staring each other down from half track on.

I have had one perfect run in my life and I lost. We were both .000 on the tree and dead zero at the stripe....as I remember their timers went to 4 digits and he was .0007 and I was .0009.

Not sure if they're the best I've lost with, but I tied twice to 4 digits, once in jrs ( 17 dead 4 to his 10 1 above 1 for the w) once in top at an old raiders et series race ( 1 dead 4 to his 4 dead 1 for the L).

LOL Fern I don't know what lane the tower is on by that description but what I meant is that usually in a case of races that are that tight the tower lane will get the nod because the wiring is shorter. Or at least I believe that to be the case. I now on race I won that went out past 4 digits of MOV I was in the left lane and I have heard others exclaim the same thing.

Funny thing about my race is that when I talked to the guy I beat I asked him if he saw the MOV. He said "yeah but the timing system messed up, it's all zeroes". hahaha

Internally, Compulink goes to 8 digits.

While I can't remember my career Best Losing Package, I'll always consider this timeslip from last summer to be my best (worst) losing run...

Worst losing package that I can recently remember:

Couple of years ago had to run my kid Cory in early rounds...I was 000 give it back 000 showing him how great I was carrying 2 tenths against him...I wasn't so great I guess.

Two Thumbs down

Ran Duane Kohl in Great Bend in 2015. I was really struggling on the tree. I took a big bite at the starting line and was .011 to his .011 and we both ripped it right before the stripe. Index is 9.05 and we both were 9.077 his margin was .0005 so I guess that's the closest race I remember.

I did go talk to him afterwards and he said that was one of the most fun races he ever had. We were just welded together down the track. Hindsight I should have left it on the floor. LOL

The worse losing package in my mind was in 20k finals race going .006 on tree and .0005 under hogging the stripe.

It wasn't a great "package" since I broke out, but in the semis of a $5k off the bottom I was .001 take .005 for the loss. My opponent was .003 on the tree.

At the 2nd ever No-Box Nationals I was .0009 first round. Get back to the trailer and my buddy who was racing out of my trailer sticks his head in the car and says, "I treed your ass!" He was .0008 to earn the bye. Second round I was .0009 again and also did not earn the bye that round.

Cash's story reminds me of one of my first times running 8.90, at an IHRA divisional. My opponent and I are both 8.917 and I get the loss. Get back to the trailer and my brother says, "Got treed, huh?" I said no and he looked really confused. We were both .013 and 8.917, but I got there .0009 behind.

~25 years ago I lost with a .000 dead on with a 0. 4 cars at a winter series race in Bradenton. I was in my Vega wagon. Mike Smith in his Vega wagon. We were both on the brakes, both .000 dead 0. Chrondeck equipment that only shows 3 digits.

I used to be a people person, but people ruined that.

My worst ever was when Super Gas was new to NHRA...

.002 rt 9.899 et... Dani Davito was in the other lane and was winning everything at that time and I was so afraid he was going to go around me for the win I kept watching him over my shoulder and never looked for the finish line...by the time I realized he was 5 cars back and wasn't going to catch me I saw the finish line go by out of the corner of my eye...By the way, he had a .110 rt on that run
I was so pissed at myself and "tired of going to fast and losing" that I quit Super/Pro Gas and built a Comp Eliminator car....A couple seasons of Comp made the Super classes look a crapload more fun to run....one nice thing about Comp is you got paid $800-$1000 for qualify/contingency money back then...that made you feel like you were a "REAL" racer lol

I have to set the scene for this. Its a Halloween race with a ton of cars, its 9th rd the final, its also 5 am ! I let go .006 and run .002 under. I could not get there. Skirt lays a .002 dead 1 on me.

Earlier that evening/ morning , we had fallen asleep in the trailer and actually thought I missed a round. Checked with some friends and they showed me that we had not missed any. I believe it was an ambulance siren that awoke me. They were taking a bike racer away who had taken a spill. A nap mid race must have helped.

I dont know if that was my best losing package but it ranks way up there if it isnt.
