After a trip to Oregon my better half will be visiting San Francisco for a few days. Looking for suggestions on where to stay that is close to the bridge and other attractions. 4/5star hotel is a must. Since neither of us has been there we obviously have no idea about where to stay. BTW, this is not a destination vacation, but when you live in south Florida and your on the west coast might as well visit some place we've never been.

Mostly, I would advise her to just be careful.

Go to the San Francisco tourist bureau, they have a map (only one in the country) where NOT to go regarding Human Feces and Spent Surenges.

When everything is coming your way, your probably in the wrong lane.

To be fair, my wife and I honeymooned there in 2016 and had a great time. Parts of the city are beautiful, as is the bay and the bridge. Driving down the coast to Carmel and Big Sur was great as well.

Sorry, but if you're taking your hard earned money to Calipornia to be spent, I hope you have the worst experience possible.

Some beautifully sights for sure, Highway 1 North and South is scenic. GG Bridge and the Embarcadero. Our last there was on BART, it reeked of urine. We were approached by panhandlers every 50 feet. This was at Xmas time for the tree lighting. That was over five years ago. Have not been back . They don’t have enough cops to protect you. Just like Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Sacramento etc...

If she does visit , stay with crowds and I hope she has a great time.

Just told told friends tonight, A friend - retired Oakland Pd robbed while pumping gas. He’s in the hospital... He also leaded up two of them.

California has discovered a way to create a cess pool above ground, it's called San Francisco. Folks who live in the East Bay Area rarely go into town without an oxygen mask, the stench is overwhelming.

Good Morning Steve:

She couldn't recommend any place down town but there are a few places north and/or east of the area, try the Novato or Orinda area. Regardless....stay off the BART unless you're wearing a rain coat and are strapped .

So, I'm thinking that BART should be renamed BARF?

I failed to mention I will be accompanying my wife on this trip. This is basically a side trip on the way back to Florida. I would never make San Francisco a destination vacation spot. That being said I'm only looking for suggestions. The snarky comments are not helpful, unless there funny (Bender).

It has been a while since I was there, but the Mariott at Fisherman's Wharf is where I always stayed at when I needed to be in that area.

Thought the service and the food in the restaurants there was pretty good.

Once you leave the safety of the hotel be careful.

Unfortunately everything mentioned above is true, in the 80's & 90's the wife and I occasionally headed down for lunch/dinner but no more. The best bet would be to drive through SF look around and see some sights and then head an hour north to Sonoma or Napa county if you like wineries or Brew house's. We are spoiled with Russian River Brewery here in Windsor and many other similar attractions including Korbel Champagne Cellars, ect. Good luck with your trip.

Keith has a pretty good idea. The last time I was down in that area was in 2019 before the pandemic all started. We stayed out in the San Ramon / Plesenton area in the East Bay about 45 minutes to a hour drive into the city.

If you have time the Zoo is awesome. Not sure about the cable cars these days. Had a lot of fun riding them in the past.

Just stay out of Oakland and you should be okay.

Everyone is not trying to be negative, only trying to get you into the mindset of being extra careful and cautious. Downtown and Fisherman's Wharf is not the same place as it once was in it's heyday and nothing like what you saw in the movies.

I apologize M but I assumed your wife was going alone. Y’all can go to the restaurants on the waterfront and visit the bridge. As mentioned the zoo is cool too. Like Bender said; you will see some crazy ****.. I think the cable cars are running too.

In-&-Out Burger closed due to City requiring Photo I.D. and proof of vaccination. OMG, it's In & Out that means outside and you have be Vaccinated to BUY A BURGER? Why would anybody want to go to San Francisco? No In & Out, that's a sacrilege!
