Run Fast 16, no electronics and I was the slower car. Tree comes down, let the clutch out and feels like I cut a good light. Tree goes green as I pass it then goes red and I get DQed. Time slip says I red lit by .052! I have never seen a red light where the green is lit first. What gives?

Yep, sounds like TruStart. I won't show your redlight until your opponent has left on his side.

Oh, thanks! I thought that with True Start the red would come on then his red would come on (if he red lit) then the computer figures out who was worse. So theoretically, if car A is 1 second slower and redlights the green would shine for a second or ? until the other driver leaves?

Your light stays green so a much faster car doesn't know you redlit and backs off on the tree. The computer waits to determine if he was green or red then shows whichever redlight is worse is my understanding.

It is still taking me some time to get used to. After 35+ years of doing it one way, I have not yet adjusted to my redlight NOT turning on until after I am well past seeing it. I'm still hanging in there when folks can lose first round and still show up next to me in the final round (b*ybacks), so this ought to be cake. Smile Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

So are you saying you are going to quit racing over something that is now done the way it should have been all along? The only reason it was done as first only in the past is because the computers at the time couldn't do what they can now.

Translation...

In so many words he's saying, he has been bracket racing a long time. In so many words, he's traditional.

I agree 100% - The entire concept of bracket racing was to try and create a level playing field, so that the guys with the most $$ didn't always win. The $$ still has some advantages, but Tru-Start took away a big one, by giving the loss to the worst red light, instead of the first. (This is exactly what good ol' Steve Taylor used to lobby for 20 years ago)... Wink
The only guys I can imagine being upset by it, are the ones who spent $$ to build a faster car, just to take advantage of the old rule "First Red Loses". They still have an advantage if you think chasing is better than leaving on a clean tree and being chased, (I personally don't mind being the chaser or the slow car).

(I will say it is a different kind of feeling, having won a round when my faster opponent bulbed it, and I didn't realize I had also gone red, until I was logging the timeslip back at the trailer)...

The argument for True start is a simple one. You can't decide a drag race before a drag race occurs.

It takes two cars to have a drag race. Both cars have to break the starting line beam, for a drag race to occur.

A drag race starts when the clock starts. I had a guy who races Pro Stock arguing with me on this, on another site.

Pretty funny. Smile

Well, thank you. I understand completely now. Yes, I agree it is much better having the worst red loose and now I see why the first red stays green until the other leaves. Weird how so many things go through your head in six and a half seconds. The whole time I'm thinking "I don't get it. I never saw red." as I am looking at his win light way before half track!

True start won't be a worry for most as most tracks don't have a timing system that can run the program. And they aren't going to spend the money for a new system or to add it to their system if it's possible.

What does a program have to do with it? Nothing.

The worse red light is loser, no matter the illusory on the time slip saying anything other.

You can't decide a drag race until two cars break the beam.

No special timing equipment is needed.

Only according to tyranny, is logic an enemy and Truth a menace.
