Dave, I'm thinkin that the results of the findings are this.
Those applying to join have nowhere else to turn to GET A JOB!!
These findings can only conclude that, since the military is saying the fat stupid kids are trying to apply.
These kids are told about the oppertunities of receiving an education, and getting in shape, which you have to be half way there to get in in the first place.
June, 1973 i believe was the last month and year the military would except a NON high school grad, as i joined on my 18th birthday in june of that year and was told i just made it, no more exceptence without a high school diploma.

it's not just fat lazy kids...it's the whole society that's gotten that way, in my opinion. Not everyone is like that but it's a LOT more common nowdays than it once was.

I was (un?)fortunate enough to have dated someone who was born and raised over in Europe. Good hard working girl but she always thought that americans in general were lazy. I tend not to disagree with that. She always amazed me at the amount of ambition she had. If she had something on her mind to do, she did it-and she admitted that SHE was lazy. I know that not all Czechs are like that but it was the general idea that her & her family & Czech friends have of America that made me wonder about the USA.

My brother-he enlisted US Army in 2002. After boot camp got sent of course to the sand box and spent 6 years over there off and on. Longest tour was 31 months without coming home on leave. Military was good for him, although, it seems that it is easy to "get out". He took a medical discharge due to diabetes among other things.

I chose not to enlist when I was 18. I thought about it and really thought about going Navy but I had already been working for a couple of years at my current job. Hard work and stressful (and HOT in the summer) but it's rewarding and hopefully will lead me to someday running my own business-that is-if the current administration (Barry Sorento?) doesn't screw with small business ownership any more than they already have.

imakehp, my point was pretty obscure...I just thought the whole article made me sort of pissed.

I also knew others would have their own thoughts, and might discuss it...

it's just another reason that I despise the dark-cloud media...this was a HEAD LINE story on an internet media site...HEAD LINE.

I was wondering if that was your view/point.

I'd rather the stories be thrown in to the pool with the sharks(people like us) and let us pick it apart until we get to the REAL story.

I am not interested in MEDIA FEEDING TIME...a bell rings(5:00pm news comes on) a door opens(a reporter starts reading a teleprompter) and food is shoved in our faces(some BS story about what ever it is they want you to hear/know)

same goes for internet news articles:
full of type-o's, and statements that are usually dubbed "AP"(associated press) meaning "no named source, just a feed, or what we refer to as 'chatter"
no one is ever held accountable for false statements on the web...so that leaves it up to us to take it with a grain of salt, disbelieve it, or buy in to it.

Bottom line is...if you can't survive without reading what's happening in the world, than you're already dead. My advice...when in doubt, ask the pool(us)...someone will get to the bottom of it.

they might struggle to find a solid group of fine young men and women who haven't been brain-washed by their 'soft' parents who have been trying to reason with them since they were 2 yrs old(you cannot "reason" with a 2 year old...you just cant. "Time-outs" do not work.

Hope the story is false, and take pride in our kids...and hope they have the courage and the strength to stand up and defend our nation...if we raised them right, then that's what will happen.

Unfortunately, alot of the guys coming home from the sand wars are in fact gang members. The cops here are finding not only are the bangers better armed, now they have training also. Not to mention there's about 10 of those knuckleheads to every cop.

Dave....yep...that, and they have an education now...which means they know how to make stuff work(electronics, programming, surveillance, communications, etc)

the only thing worse than an armed, trained, angry thug gangsta...is an educated armed, trained, angry thug gangsta.

coupled with the emotional/psychological problems they are coming home with, they are volatile, and VERY dangerous....throw in suicidal, and you have a recipe for some effed-up scenarios.
