I never do that, I just stage. I do try to stage as shallow as I can, but I don't do the flicker thing.....

Last weekend's race at Immokalee I had a car next to me try to burn me down. I did my burnout, backed up behind the tree and put the car in neutral...he was pulled up just short of the light....and sat there....so I did the same thing...sat there....I guess he realized he wasn't going to get his way and finally prestaged, I rolled in, he quickly double bulbed me, I just did my thing.....it was my one good reaction time of the night, pretty much destroyed him on the tree....what's funny is it was a time trial.....99.9% of the time I just do my thing and pretty much ignore the other lane, but when someone starts trying to play the games, I will play back....More often than not I screw them up too....heheheheheheh

Obvious some don't understand this "tactic". Another subject is trying to deep stage at a track enforcing courtesy staging. You better know what to do on this end of the track or the other end won't matter.

it's a staging tactic used to in an effort to get their opponents to go red who don't know how auto start works or aren't paying attention when staging.

I'm curious. Is this guy known for doing that? How did you know that was his intention? I always do my burnout and roll to just short of the prestage beam and sit in neutral waiting for most people doing their 30second routines.

I guess I wondered that too. Maybe there is history. I'm not usually aware that someone is playing a game. If they aren't pulling forward at all, I'm guessing he is having trouble or lost or just plain slow. If he won't turn on the 4th light, the tree will take care of business for me.

Forward motion and applied power rule is to prevent reverse staging or staging with the starter on manual transmission cars. There is no rule against wheel sweep staging, wheel sweep is a forward motion.

I am sure the wheel sweep staging you are talking of is up to the starts opinion as to what it is. Why risk it.
I don’t play games but if I am in process of staging when other guy is flickering his bulb I usually stop and let him settle in then finish my staging just so I am not distracted by his flickering bulb. There are some who just take forever and I just give them a head start on their routine before I start my burnout.

The applied power deal is this. The power is applied to the steering device to turn it ! The last time I checked, forward motion would be any action that makes a racecar closer to the finish line, Does it matter what that action is ?. How can you argue with those ?

I don't think/haven't seen anyone that does this that actually final stages this way. The only way I've ever seen it done, they turn the wheel to flicker the bulb to trigger autostart, count to 5 then actually bump in, eliminating the final stage issue and not having to deal with the inconsistency of staging with the wheels crooked.

what I don't understand more is, the guys that do not back up fully behind the tree (stop as soon as front tire turns on the prestage) especially when they're backing up slower then it takes a jr to run. what exactly is that accomplishing? to me it seems like you are not properly staging

Keith I could argue that you break finish line with your nose not your wheel so you are not moving any closer to the finish line. How’s that. Big Grin

Drag Kid one of the best at this lives right out there around Jacksonville and the guy from Glen Burnie you are close to right but the trick is you hope the other guy hasen't staged at the end of your 5 count when you go in and he is caught with his pants down not staged when the tree goes off. I raced a Capitol for years and would many times give the 10 count before I went in because there I could but if I got to eleven or counted to slow it was me being timed out.

Wheel sweeping actually works best against people who claim they don't play starting line games. Stage within 10 seconds of pre-staging and this will not affect you.

I watch the other racers in my class when I'm running....I pay attention to what they do. Every other car he ran, dragster or door car, he did his burnout, prestaged, and staged when the other was in. When I did my thing, he waited until I did my burnout, then when I had backed up and put the car in neutral, he sat there...kept looking at me...every previous round he never looked at the other car until he was prestaged...I sat there....after a bit he finally rolled in......Play staging games with me I'll sit there until I run out of fuel if I have to.....but the other car isn't going to dictate when I roll in....not happening.. 99.9% of the time I just do my thing, but when the other guy starts with the games on the line, I'll play too. I'm one of those racers that just wants to race. Screw the games, it's all BS. Burnout, stage, and run. If you have to play games to win or try and win, you need to rethink your stuff. Do the routine, dial honest and run the number...

that's just like the racers that sit back and wait for the bulk of the class to run so they can watch and cherry pick who they race...I just get in line wherever.....I get who I get....sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. If the guy in the other lane has a better package, kudos to him/her.....for me, I just wanna race.....I think that if you have a consistent setup, great reactions, and dial tight you'll win more than playing any games...if you have to play the games to get an advantage, what does that say about your program?

Well I hope it was just a misinterpretation. I don't play games. When I say I sit and wait on them they haven't even gotten to the prestage beam yet. I do short burnouts and roll to the line. When I see them rolling to the beams I start my routine and go on in. I'm usually the first in but don't care one way or the other who is. I don't hold anyone up or rush anyone I just do my thing. It seems like a lot of the people I race do their burnout, stop 30' from the line, tighten belts, check their switches, fix their hair, phone a friend, then decide it's time to race. LOL

Now if you believe not dialing honest is game playing then we disagree there. If I run the number I put on it isn't that dialing honest though?

As you know the stage light it brought on by the front wheel but the finish line beam is 5” high or supposed to be so most car break finish line with nose, you notice I said most because a lot of door cars sit high enough to break with the tires but a dragster will break with the nose. This is the reason some cars in the really fast classes have stripe taker that sticks out in front of the body so that they are breaking the beam the same as some of the other cars, usually on old shoe box cars versus the newer body styles.

I would be willing to bet money that if you staged your car then rolled it down the track till it broke the finish line and then measured the distance it is just short of 660’ or 1320’ whichever you are running and will be short by the length of your cars nose.
