NHRA SOUTHERN NATIONALS CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS

GLENDORA, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2020) – The NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway, scheduled for Aug. 28-30, has been canceled due the current COVID-19 pandemic. NHRA made this difficult decision after exhaustive deliberation with track representatives, health officials and government authorities.

NHRA and Atlanta Dragway came to this conclusion after carefully weighing the significance of the 40th anniversary of the NHRA Southern Nationals. The anniversary of the historic race will be celebrated in 2021.

“It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway,” said Kasey Coler, vice president of track management and operations. This tough decision was made following numerous discussions with our stakeholders regarding the ability to host and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the race. Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, we would not be able to provide the event a proper platform to honor and celebrate this historic anniversary.”

Division 1 cancelled another divisional, this weekend's event at Cecil a few hours ago.

Plan on the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway being cancelled too.

I'm not convinced the state of GA shut them down - wondering if NHRA brass in Cali just lost their nerve.

Yes of "now" the sportsman entries have been transfered to Gainesvile,

I'm really glad we did'nt enter that race "IF" it happens whats another 5hrs each way right?

I've been surprised by everything they've been able to get away with. Nobody utters a peep.

It's all starting to add up now.

After the US Nats on Labor day weekend I am betting they are done. Whatever Lucas oil races that are allowed by the local governments will continue
