Now that I will take. If there is teeth to this call out deal, it could change the strategy for the race weekend. If every day of the race weekend was competition of some sort, that would be a little different. Even if copying the street guys is corny as hell.

5CentCharlie, you might want to attend a Street Outlaws race before you say the racing isn’t real

I saw that and was not impressed. They are are wanting to make it like Street racing yet be polite and politically correct. What ever, same as the street racing deal. Shut up. line them up and run it.
I quit watching the Street racing deal because it all has been taken over by big money and advertising. Then Farmtruck and AZN trying to be Comedians. (not funny)

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Reality TV replaces racing, trying to create personalities and rivalries.

So the match racing that financed most of the '60's and '70's "pro" racing was stupid?

I don't see the difference, except that it's on TeeVee now.

Like back when there were drivers that had real personalities. The 32 and 64 car Funny Car shows and match races that drew standing room only crowds at every event. People cheering on their favorite drivers and backup girls.

You would be hard pressed today to even find 32 running Funny cars, let alone 64 of them to gather for one show.

They might not have been as fast as they are today but as far as putting on a show...they were much better at it than what we have today.

John Force is one of the few leftovers from that era. Where do you think he learned how to be a showman at....Hint...It wasn't racing NHRA events.

Actually a lot of it was pretty silly stuff if you go back and listen to the radio ads or read the flyers. It was pro wrestling type ads. Now they are trying to do it with the national events. Must be working as the stands were packed in FL.

I really doubt that’s the reason for the crowds

If you were to young to be there you shouldn’t even comment about those 60s early 70s shows. They packed the stands.

At one time, the U.S. Nationals rivaled the Indy 500 as an event.
Being an Indy native, I've watched it all go down.

True but I think NHRA is to blame for running off Spectators, Racers and Sponsors. Greediest "Non-Profit Organization" ever.

Come to Ennis at the end of this month. I think they had almost 64 Funny Cars last year. Probably more this year.

As I remember the US Nationals used to be at Pamona. You got to be old to remember that.

Sorry Fern , BUT, the first US Nationals was in Great Bend Kansas in 1955. Next year was Oklahoma City, followed by Detroit for two years then to Indy in 1959. My grandfather flat towed his 49Ford from Indy to Great Bend and raced most of the US Nationals for over 30 years until his passing. Don't ya just love a trivia addict.

This article really explains how Garlits found a way to get Wally Parks to increase payouts at National Events.

Big Daddy's race in Tulsa opposite the US Nationals in 1972 paid $25K to win in Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock. That $25K equates to $162K in today's money.

Guess I was confused. The winter nationals may be what I was thinking of. Old mind gets confused sometimes.
