MANNERS, HARKER LEAD FIELDS FOR LUCAS OIL FINALE

Las Vegas (November 6, 2009) - In the first rounds of qualifying for the
Short Line Express Market Gambler Shootout presented by Torco Fuels, Top
Alcohol Dragster driver Michael Manners, Willis, Texas, and Top Alcohol
Funny Car pilot Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., took the No. 1
qualifying positions in their classes. The event marks the final event
on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional schedule. Lucas Oil
Racers also compete at NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series which has
one event to go, next weekend at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif.
Manners leads a strong list of racers in the alcohol dragster class
taking the early pole with a run of 5.364 seconds at 265.70 mph.
Manners is followed by Hillary Will, Ypsilanti, Mich., and defending
NHRA Lucas Oil National Champion Bill Reichert, Owosso, Mich., in the
number two and three spots respectively. Reichert, currently leads the
chase for the 2009 national championship and is hoping to hold off Duane
Shields, Boulder City, Nev., and Jim Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo.,
who are qualified fifth and sixth.
Harker put his '06 Monte Carlo on top with a lap of 5.672 seconds,
255.34 mph with Alexis De Joria and Tony Bartone in second and third.
De Joria, Bronson, Fla., ran 5.676 at 254.04 and Bartone, Long Island,
N.Y., clocked in at 5.684, 250.97.
Hawaii's Kevin Rapozo qualified No. 1 in the division's Hughes Top
Dragster class at 6.206 seconds, 225.22 mph and Greg Tucker, Lindsay,
Okla., is tops in Top Sportsman in his '09 GXP at 6.787, 205.35.
The Comp Eliminator field has Marty Ladwig on top out of San Antonio,
Texas in his '07 Cobalt and Alan Ellis, Mapleton, Utah, and his '23
T-Ford in second.
Top qualifiers in other classes are Bobby Dennis, Shorter, Ala., in Super Stock;
Brad Burton, Golden, Colo., in Stock Eliminator, and Alex Barmettler, Maplewood,
Minn., in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by Harley Davidson.
In a special addition to the Lucas Oil Series for this weekend's event, the
Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley class is being contested with Steve Dorn of Milwaukie,
Ore., leading the field at 6.299 seconds, 225.26 mph.
Thursday's action included the K&N Top Qualifier Shootout in both the Top Dragster
and Top Sportsman classes with Mike MacBrair and Brad Wagner picking up early event
wins. MacBrair, Napa, Calif., defeated Lyle Burnham, Henderson, Nev., in the
dragster class with a 7.267 second lap at 179.73 mph while Wagner, also of
Henderson, took the Top Sportsman trophy over Gary Forkner, Temecula, Calif., with a
run of 7.222 seconds, 184.90 mph.
Racing continues Saturday at The Strip. Gates open at 7 a.m. with racing set to
begin at 7:30.

LAS VEGAS (November 7, 2009) - In the final rounds of qualifying for
this weekend's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Short Line Express
Market Gambler Shootout presented by Torco Fuels event it was a pair of
ladies taking the No. 1 and 2 spots in Top Alcohol Dragster. Hillary
Will, Ypsilanti, Mich., leads the field with a 5.644 second lap at
256.21 mph with Brittney Force, Yorba Linda, Calif., in second at
5.6576, 254.04.
Round one will feature a championship match up with point's leader Bill
Reichert, Owosso, Mich., taking on No. 2 in the points Jim Whiteley,
Grand Junction, Colo. Whiteley is in a must win situation to over take
Reichert. Reichert is looking to hold off Whiteley and Duane Shields,
Boulder City, Nev., who is qualified in eighth and would face off
against Reichert in the semifinals if they both advance.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car it was Steve Harker holding onto the top spot out of
Gainesville, Ga., with a lap of 5.644 seconds at 256.21 mph. Harker, who has
clinched the NHRA South Central Division Championship, is followed by Alexis De
Joria, Sacramento, Calif., and second generation driver Steve Gasparrelli, West
Covina, Calif., in the 2nd and 3rd spots.
Michael Kile, Westlake, La., jumped ahead of Kevin Rapozo, Kapaa, Hi.,
in the Hughes Performance Top Dragster class while Marty Ladwig, San
Antonio, Texas, held on to the No. 1 spot in Comp Eliminator over Alan
Ellis with Steve Matusek in third with his Aeromotive '07 Mustang. Kile
ran 6.171 seconds at 223.36 mph and Rapozo posted a 6.202, 224.36 mph
run.

Steve Dorn and Phil Schmidt lead the Screamin' Eagle Nitro Harley class with Dorn,
Milwukie, Ore., on top with a 6.248 second pass at 225.26 mph.

REICHERT WINS 4TH CHAMPIONSHIP IN 4 YEARS
Manners, Gasparrelli Grab Wins

LAS VEGAS (November 8, 2009) - Bill Reichert needed some help from
Hillary Will and Tom Conway in doing so, but he clinched his 4th
straight NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster National
Championship this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Reichert, Owosso, Mich., had the point's lead coming into this weekend
with only Jim Whiteley, Grand Junction, Colo., and Duane Shields,
Boulder City, Nev., within striking distance. Whiteley took out
Reichert in round one to keep his hopes alive but Shields lost to Will
ending his, and setting up a semifinal match up between Will and
Whiteley. Will, Ypsilanti, Mich., driving for veteran racer and car
owner/tuner Tom Conway ran down Whiteley at the finish line ending his
chance at the title and securing the championship for Reichert.
Jimmy DeFrank, advanced to the semifinals in Super Stock which should
assure him of the National Championship as well. DeFrank lost to event
winner and former national champion Michael Iacono, Wading River, N.Y.,
who beat Bo Butner in the final for the win.
In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round Will matched up against No. 3
qualifier Michael Manners with Manners, Willis, Texas, setting the low
elapsed time and top speed of the event at 5.332 seconds, 265.33 mph for
the win. Will, who drove a Top Fuel dragster in the NHRA Full Throttle
Drag Racing Series last year, left first but lost traction almost
immediately ending her day.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car it was Steve Gasparrelli taking the win over
No. 1 qualifier Steve Harker, Gainesville, Ga., with a run of 5.825
seconds, 254.57 mph. Gasparrelli, West Covina, Calif., beat recent
winner and last week's Las Vegas Nationals runner-up Alexis De Joria and
former national champion Tony Bartone on his way to the finals and the
win for Lou Gasparrelli Racing.
Jim Perry, Niota, Tenn., took the points lead over Thomas Bayer, and
unofficially the championship with a runner-up finish in Super Comp
where Greg Boutte, Stockton, Calif., took the event win and the trophy.
Max Tafoya, Albuquerque, N.M., took his second win in as many weeks here
in Las Vegas winning in Super Gas today and at last week's nationals
while Jerry Emmons, Pasadena, Texas, held off Les Norton in Stock
Eliminator after ousting his brother Gary in the semifinals.
John Coughlin, Delaware, Ohio, needed a win to take the NHRA North
Central Division Championship in Top Dragster and that's what he did
knocking out Dave Morgan in the division's Hughes Performance Top
Dragster class.
Winner's in other classes this weekend were Ross Wilson, Upland, Calif.,
in Comp Eliminator over east coast hitter Sal Biondo; Gary Forkner,
Temecula, Calif., won by less than two-feet against Ted Carli in Top
Sportsman; former Northwest Division Champion Jeff Jackson, Wilsonville,
Ore., beat Gary Thompson in Super Street; Minnesota racer Alex
Barmettler was victorious in the Sportsman Motorcycle class presented by
Harley Davidson; and Steve Dorn, Milwaukie, Ore., in the Screamin'
Eagle Nitro Harley class clocking in at 6.362 seconds, 220.98 mph.
This was the final race on the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
divisional schedule. Lucas Oil racers have one last chance to earn
points toward the national championships next week at Auto Club Dragway
at Pomona for the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals.
