The cold has always bothered me more than the heat. And I say that in July and August so that folks will know I'm serious. But even still, I've been known to go to the track when the temperature is under 50 degrees. Take care. Tom Worthington

If it seems that bracket racing has gotten too expensive for you, maybe you are just doing it wrong.

If my track is open, and there's a purse involved, I'm hydrating a little extra the morning before I leave to race, using my sunscreen, and finding shade when I'm not in the car.

Everyone needs more H20. If you're not sweating when it's hot out, you need to drink.

I’ll be 61 next week, I ain’t over weight, in great shape for my age and 100+ degrees days at the track ain’t stopping me!

Are you driving still?

If 100+ is predicted I probably wouldn't go to begin with, but if I'm already there it would take ugly heat for me to leave.
Now remember I'm talking like a guy that has no racetracks within 400-500 miles of my house. If it was an hour tow home I might sing an entirely different tune first time I suited up in my firesuit. lol

I’m told 106 Dave. That means the start was min 139 plus and the asphalt probably 150 plus.
Besides being really hard on equipment , it’s hard on folks too. I can’t think of one good reason to race in those conditions. Too many things can happen. Cara are getting faster and they don’t have a compound to help scorching hot.

Ive worked in the Vegas heat for 50+ years, and have been fine up to about 110*. After that I start getting warm. Gloves are a must to handle tools even keeping them in the shade when not in use. But, I found out I started feeling my age when we started doing juniors in the morning and going to the big cars in the afternoon. Up at 5 or 6 to prep the jr, racing til almost noon, then putting that away and prepping the big cars and racing til 11ish. Even though we quit in June til Sept, up til summer break, it still gets pretty hot. Ive shot the sidewall of my tires before with the temp gun and registered 140*.

It's interesting how your attitude changes after your first heat stroke, provided you survive the experience. A lot of folks never get a second chance. At 100 I'm done, up to that point I'm fine.

Bob, The 2 tracks in jersey are closed today and the temp won’t get to 100 and healthy people that are hydrating aren’t having heat strokes. Yes, age is a factor but at the age it becomes a factor, most aren’t racing anymore. Again it’s the summer and our sport is contested in mostly hot, summer weather. I what to race in very hot and humid weather, we have a history of WINNING on these days.

Just watched the first round of the $75K at Virginia and it looked like everyone was doing fine. Saw one car go 4.20+ straight as an arrow. Kind of wish I would have went but car is in for a freshen up. I am 81 and only time heat ever bothered me was one time at Piedmont when I didn't drink anything. 1320 hit the nail on the head up above.

With the current state of the economy and the cost of just about everything these days...I get it. Doesn't mean I like it....but I understand it. At least in today's age - there are a helluva lot better ways to get the word out that 20 plus years ago. It was either call the track and hopefully get a definitive answer other than "we aren't sure yet", word of mouth of cancellation, or show up and find out (been there done that lol).

Here in Southwestern OH - I don't ever remember Edgewater closing for heat - but I do remember when Tri-State Dragway was open there were a few Sunday's (and Saturday TNT's) that got cancelled over the heat. TSD was just brutal at times in July / Aug. No shade anywhere and that sun beat you from 10am until well after 5-6 if you were still around that late.

In this area - we can see DA's above 3,000 and close to 4,000 if it is REALLY REALLY bad - but I can't imaging this stuff at higher levels. We took a 2 week trip out west to several national parks last year - Arches in Moab was awesome - but at 104 F...I was struggling.

Anyway - stay hydrated and stay safe folks!

If you were a driver instead of a crewman you'd understand not liking the excessive heat. Put on a firesuit, put a pillow on the seat so you can see over the steering wheel, strap in and you might understand. Sitting in the lanes in an open ****pit car for any time is way different then sitting in a door car. Like back when you were much younger man person.

Most of those guys were young. Nobody said anything about us old guys. We were not there. He!! Yeah I can race in the heat! Did it and won. I didn’t complain. I stated what THEY did. Not us. You’re quick to point the finger eh?
