I do get some disability payment from the government but it is in payment for the sacrifice that I gave 30 years ago to give everyone the right to have an opinion; which doesn't make it right. No one knows how difficult it is for me to get out of bed in the morning, to bend down and tie my shoes, or what pain I have during the entire day. I do not show it, I do not talk about it because it is my cross to bear for what I was willing to give for every person in this country.

I really wish people would not talk negatively about any disabled vet because you have no idea what someone went through, especially before the military became soft. We grew up in a different military where we were bodies and just cogs in a big machine. Respect ALL veterans regardless of what they did, what job they held or what injuries you can or can't see.

HONOR, DUTY, COUNTRY !!!

They do not need to be talking any cr@p about someone who put their life on the line for us disabled or not. Many did not make it back and all took that risk. I do not see how anyone living in a Free Country can act like they do not owe our Freedom to them.

Thank you for your service and enjoy your Retirement. And as for how much money he or anyone else makes in Retirement some are saying he gets too much and others saying he is a broke @zz. Really none of our business we all do best we can.

I am retired and I am Comfortable and have everything I need and want. Certainly would not call it Rich. With that said if I had more money I could probably find a way to spend it. Just Saying.....

"Dunning-Kruger Effect"
-a type of Cognitive bias where people with little expertise or ability assume they have superior expertise or ability. This overestimation occurs as a result of the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to know they don't have enough knowledge.

Before you argue with someone ask yourself, "Is this person mentally mature enough to grasp the concept of a different perspective?" If not there is no point to argue.

Thanks Vern!

I have been working my a.s.s off, especially with the wood cutting. I have been making a little time for fun. I went to the County fair last night & watched the tractor pulls. Today I went to look at a 33 ford roadster for the boss lady. Hoping to make it to the track this weekend. Other than that enjoying time with dad. BTW, using my phone with limited service sucks. Oh well, life is good!

My knee replacement is a whole lot better so yesterday I pulled the trigger and entered Indy. Should have gone to Montana because I need the grade points but I thought what the hell. I last ran Indy in 1975. At least that's when I think it was. Big Grin Glad you're staying busy. Should see you in Vegas at the end of the year.

Keep the plan in place & get more aggressive with your 401k. In hindsight, I could have retired 2 years earlier at 57 1/2. That was when my wife gave me the green light. Oh well, I'm making the best out of a later early retirement.

Yeah, I'm pretty aggressive. No wife, no kids, I'm comfortable enough with the risks. I'm doing well at 55, 401k value is over 11x my salary. The big question mark I have is how soon can I afford health care on my own. I'll be looking into that soon, to have an idea of what I'll need.

Thank you for your service, and an excellent post. My uncle is a combat wounded Vietnam vet, and has worked/lived/struggled with PTSD since.

Chuck, sound like you are on the right track. The only thing I wanted to do before retiring was putting 75 percent of my pay in the 401 for the last year. As for the health care. My accountant buddy wished he would of retired early. He found a plan that meets his needs & said it was reasonable.

Been in MI. going on 3 weeks tomorrow & have 2 more weeks of work/fun. Using my phone for post sure does suck, that's why I limit my post here.

Anyway, I have been all over MI, OH & IN. The plan for next year's trip is to stay for 2 months. I might bring more than one toy to race with next year. Plenty of racing in July & August in MI & the neighboring states.

You are milking the system, I've seen it done before by two of my former neighbors. First the military then double dip in the military industrial complex. You will live well in retirement not because of enriching the lives of others (being productive) rather collecting tax dollars. If you are truly disabled you wouldn't be drag racing. You ask for an opinion, I would not have responded if not. I am a former draftee and endured your kind for my country. You see I was forced to serve and I was forced to pay taxes all my life. And now you continue to live well off of my tax dollars. JMO

His early retirement means this lazy fuc doesn’t want to work anymore, rather continue to milk the system living off of tax payers dollars!

This broke dyck pos who’s boosting about “early retirement” and claims he’s financially set, has nothing but junk for a race car and trailer Laughing very hard which hasn’t been in competition for 2 years because he doesn’t have the money to rebuild it and last year he custom orders the trailer of his dreams for 30 years and backs out of the deal within days of it being delivered to the dealer again because he didn’t have the money and dream trailer 2.0 still hasn’t been ordered 2 years later and never will be! You can’t make this shyt up and only on an Internet message board can a broke dyck who ain’t got nothing, boast about early retirement while he’s been milking the system, living off tax payers $ while scanning the system collecting disability.

6 pages of "Early Retirement" comments, and the beat goes on.

My working days ended at 60 that was 21 years ago, in a way it was sort of "accidental" as in pile driving a race car into a wall at Las Vegas. I loved my job Monday was the best day of the week for me. When that ended I was fortunate enough to be married to a wonderful woman and had accumulated some income property to supplement my monthly Social Security check.

My racing days were actually pretty much over but it just took me a while to understand that and adjust. I still run the car just not at NHRA events I do understand that I will never be competitive and that's OK. My two older sons are very competitive in TD and TS and I enjoy traveling with them to NHRA Divisional and National events.

All this said enjoy the moments that happen when you do retire, travel or do whatever your income will allow. Apologize for nothing and sail your own ship wherever it takes you.

As usual I look forward to dad's & my birthday towards the end of the month. It has always been very special for us to share the same birth date. He will be 82 & I will be 60. We will have our annual banana split on or near our birthday.
