Wish I thought he was as principled as you guys give him credit for. He's a professional politician after all. I feel it's simply a matter of self preservation by being astute enough to listen to his voters. While not this time, generally there are enough RINO's to let the dims carry their votes and let Manchin escape to get re-elected.

The way I look at it, he has the balls to stick the spokes! Nobody else did. Maybe he’s setting up his future and I get that. The rest are yes men and women.

While I hate to think he has ambitions past the current Senate seat he now occupies, I agree with Canted. He is somewhat like Roberts on the Supreme Court, but then again, I want people that do what is within the law as written and protect us peons.
While Trumps did some things I agreed with, I hated the tax breaks did not proceed to tackle the debts our "leaders" have gotten us into. Our heirs will inherit this mess and the way I see it, they will be so "taxed" they too may lose their ambition and get on the "government tit" till this becomes a socialist country.

The tax cut allowed the average man to live a better life at the time. There was no way he could address the deficient/debt on his first term. And what good would it have done when the voters put libs right back in office? His spending was egregious to be sure. You don't have to worry about "our heirs", the system will self correct long before that. They will usher in the "Fed Coin" and big brother will have a hook in American society that will never recover. Hope I'm wrong, but mark my words.
