1. No Box cars will run each other until there is one No Box car remaining. That remaining No Box Car will advance into the next round of Box and be mixed in at that point. It is possible for there to be a No Box bye run and a Box bye run in the same round.
2. Box Door Cars and Box Open Bodied will run separately for the first 4 rounds. During any round if there is one remaining Box Door car left they will run a Box Open Bodied car in that round.
3. Junior 11.90 and slower vehicles will have their own bye run per round until one 11.90 Junior remains and is mixed in with the rest of the vehicles still left in competition. 11.90 and slower entries must dial 11.90 or slower throughout the race.
• First round bye determined by random draw of tech cards. Remaining bye runs will be determined by best reaction time of the previous round. In the event of a tie, the tie breaker will be closest to dial (excluding breakouts). If even number of cars the bye run has lane choice.
• Unused bye runs do not carry over to the next round but may be earned again.
• No competitor will be allowed to have multiple bye runs unless all remaining competitors have already had one.
• Racers will run the lane they select when pulling into the lanes. When only 1 lane of vehicles remain a card pull will determine lanes for the remaining pairs and high card gets choice.
• If weather shortens a race, payout will be split among the winners of the last completed round.

From Bret Kepner

Well, another incredible Good Vibrations Funny Car Nationals, (the eleventh annual), is in the books. Bakersfield took back the title for 2018 by two cars, (for the first time since 2011), but twenty-seven Funny Cars appeared at Keystone Raceway Park in New Alexandria, Pennsylvania, for the biggest Funny Car meet on the planet OUTSIDE of California. The East-versus-West team challenge wasn’t decided until the twenty-fifth pair of Funny Cars (!) and the crowd saw fifty-two Funny Car runs in three hours prior to the final rounds for the individual championships for fifty-six total passes. I seldom state an opinion online but, to me, this race is the closest representation of a Funny Car event from the 1973-1979 era anywhere on Earth. This program does not present “modern nostalgia” cars. The machines in this race are, in most cases, the ACTUAL Funny Cars which ran more than forty years ago. They look, sound and perform exactly as Funny Cars did in that era and that’s what makes this event different than any other in the sport.

The field included racers hailing from the U.S. and Canada, from New York to California and from Michigan to Florida. The Easterners won the East-versus-West team title bonuses by two round wins...out of twenty-eight rounds! Congratulations to Chris Masserella who won his second straight Funny Car Nationals title at the wheel of his “Total Insanity” ‘77 Monza in the supercharged category by murdering Low Qualifier Bill Wall’s “NitroFlier” ‘79 Dodge Omni with a huge holeshot, 7.03 to a losing 6.87 to win by a mere fifteen thousandths of a second. Frank Bernard’s ‘77 “Poison Arrow” won its fourth Injected Funny Car individual championship in a great 7.97 to 8.03 battle over perennial favorite Willie Johnson in his “No Money, No Funny” ‘69 Nova. Good Vibrations Racing Reaction Time cash award went to Bob Daly, Jr., in his family's "War Horse" '74 Mustang II, (injected divison), and to Joey Haas (supercharged eliminator), who hit a stunning 0.002 RT in his “Nimrod” ‘71 Mustang Mach I. The Round One Injected Funny Car Burnout Challenge Money from Summit Racing went to Bob Daly, Jr., and the Supercharged Funny Car Burnout Challenge Money from Summit Racing went to Chris Massarella with a 700-footer, (under power). the Round Two Burnout Challenge from Lightning Motor Oil was earned by Willie Johnson in the injected category and went to Kevin Johnson’s “Quarter Pounder” ‘79 Trans Am., (with a 600-footer), in the blown division. The event was capped by another amazing twenty-five minute fireworks display courtesy of Keystone Raceway Park.

Speaking of which, track promoter Greg Miller once again provided a fantastic facility and crew as the site of the event for the second year. Greg takes great pride in the track, (and his fireworks show!), and makes the massive crowds feel welcome at every race. Without his fantastic crew, including fifty-year announcing veteran Jim Senkewicz and tower statistician Deanna DeRienzo, the event would never be able to meet the brutal schedule under which it is run. Of course, the Funny Car Nationals would never happen if not for its creator, Dennis Salzwimmer of the Great Lakes Nostalgia Funny Car Circuit, who again turned a year’s worth of preparation into a simply amazing show. This event draws a truly amazing array of photographer talent including the dean of Pittsburgh-area drag racing imagery, Bill Truby, who is always considered a guest of honor. Likewise this race serves as the annual gathering of the fans of DragList.com froma round the country and it is always a huge treat for me to work with one of the greatest people I’ve yet met, my friend Bill Pratt of DragList. I announced this event completely from the starting line much as I do other races and Bill was out there with me for the duration. The entire event was streamed globally by Mark Walter’s Motor Mania TV and can be viewed in archive form. I’ll list the address and the round times in a separate post.

Credit is due all the event sponsors including Peak AntiFreeze, Summit Racing Equipment. Lightning Racing Oil and S&W Race Cars. Classic Carts, LLC, posted cash for Best Appearing Car in the Injected ranks, (Bob Daly Sr. and Junior with there "War Horse" '74 Mustang II), and the blown category, (The Stambaugh family's fabulous Chuck B-painted "Generation X" '78 Corvette). However, we owe the most to the title sponsor for the umpteenth year, Jim Maher and Good Vibrations Motorsports/Dragparts.com.

I offer my thanks to everybody involved from the dozens of Funny Car teams to the great compliment of sportsman racers to the crew to each and every fan who supported the 11th annual Good Vibrations Funny Car Nationals! Hope to see you all next year!

KRP site has been updated nicely, and the schedule is up. Check it out!

http://keystoneracewaypark.com/

Posted on FB yesterday too:

Hello racers and fans, on behalf of all of us here at Keystone Raceway Park, we hope that you had a wonderful holiday season, filled with family, friends, good food, and good times. It was fitting that 2018 ended: with enough rain to officially make it the wettest year on record. No one needed to tell us, or any race track on the east coast this. We all felt the pain of Mother Nature’s bad moods. It was hard for everyone – us as a business, racers as competitors, fans enjoying the action on the track – to get into a good consistent pattern.

For 2019, we are leaving that all behind, and looking forward to a fresh start. Some have already noticed part of that, and it’s our newly revamped website, at www.keystoneracewaypark.com. We’re hoping you find it more streamlined and user friendly. Here are some of the highlights about the new site:

Right near the top, you’ll see a link for “Join Our Mailing List”. Please take a minute (really, that’s all it takes!) to sign up. None of this information leaves our control: your information is not sold or used by anyone but us at KRP. We are bringing back the weekly email newsletter with results, upcoming schedule and events, etc. You can provide just a name and email address, and that will get that information sent right to your inbox. You can also sign up (same list) via our Facebook page, where you see “Sign Up” or “Join My List”.

Our 2019 schedule is posted on the website, largely underneath the mailing list link, “View Our Race Schedule”. The bracket racing points days are set in stone; they won’t change or have additions. Test and tunes, open to all street and drag vehicles, move to Wednesday nights every week, and select Friday nights. King of Street Saturdays are an updated spin off of Saturday Night Street Drags. Those events will be all about the street vehicles, as the only action on the track, not sharing the day with other events. Our flyers are in the process of being updated, and will be directly linked in the schedule page itself, like how the car show (the first event in the schedule) is. We may add to these events listed, so please check often!

For the bracket racers, there are a number of changes: we will have 5 double race weekends, 4 of them Friday and Saturday, with ALL classes starting at 11am on the Saturday, and the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular will be points days on Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th. The remaining 4 points days on Saturdays will follow the traditional schedule of juniors starting at noon, big car time trials at 3pm. All points days are 1/8th mile, with the exception of the Funny Car and Night of Fire events, which will be 1000’ racing in all classes, including Top!

Racers, check out the Racers Info tab, to see the updated 2019 payout information on the Classes/Entry/Payouts link. In Top and Modified, we’ve taken a little off the top, from the winner’s purse, and DOUBLED round money! The Street class has been renamed Sportsman, in line with IHRA’s Summit Super Series for the Sportsman class. We have additional sections we will be bringing online once the information has been completed, and we are excited about blending the history of KRP with the present day world.

Please support the sponsors, because the value of their contributions cannot be stated enough. We couldn’t do this without them. Whether you are a racer with your own sponsor or not, a fan in the stands of our weekly or show events, the sponsors make all of our fun possible. Our Sponsors tab has been updated, and will be updated with our new sponsors coming on board for 2019. If you have a business that would like to partner with us here at Keystone Raceway Park, or if you have someone who may be interested coming onboard, please contact us at info@keystoneracewaypark.com.

We will be posting banquet ticket information soon, to celebrate our 2018 KRP class champions and points finishers, and to induct a new class into the Keystone Hall Of Fame. It will be held on Saturday, March 16, at Colton Hall in Claridge, where it has been for the previous 2 years.

Pit parking renewal contracts have been mailed out to those who rented spots in 2018. Reminder, you have until February 28 to renew your spots. Please contact us if you have not received your renewal.

Chassis certifications will be on Saturday, April 27, by appointment only. Please contact Don Ickes at 412-417-3533 to schedule.

Come see us at our booth at the 58th Annual World of Wheels car show, February 8-10 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Our apologies for any confusion on the dates, as our hardcopy calendar was printed last January, and the show changed dates well after that.

Please stay tuned to the Facebook page (the top story of which you can see on the main page of the new website) as well as the new site, as we make announcements. We wish you all a very happy, healthy, and, at least on race days, DRY 2019! Thank you all for your continued support, and we hope to see you soon.
