Yes anyone know? Seems like Maple is being a little more strict now after this weekend, and I imagine it has to do with the pit vehicle accident. Maybe there was other things that happened to.

Rob, I'm sure you are talking about the new rules that were posted today on the MG website. Here are the first 2 new rules:

1. Pit vehicles – including golf carts, motor scooters and ATVs – are not permitted to be operated one hour after the end of track activities.

2. Unlicensed vehicles are not permitted to cross public roads per local police. Patrons who wish to visit the Finish Line Pub or the campgrounds, must park their vehicles inside Gate 4 and proceed on foot.

This is a direct result of the incident Wednesday night. Gotta admit, everyone adhered to the 'no pit vehicle' rule Thursday and Friday nights, and it wasn't a big deal at all.

What's the allowed age for driving a golf cart around the pits? ................... from what I saw Thursday, Friday, and Saturday ... I'm surprised that there weren't more casualties! And I'm referring to "kids driving kids" on the golf carts.

On one instance I saw at 6 young children on a cart, driven by a kid that didn't look older than 12 or 14.

And the worst one I saw was, when we were all eating under the Cecil tent ....... and 2 young kids came flying around the corner in a golf cart ..... and to make it worse, they were looking back at us, while going around the corner ...................... it's a good thing that there wasn't a race car, truck, dragster, or another cart coming at them!

Most people seemed to use common sense, though.

The last that I heard (Saturday) about Steve Truitt .... was that he was more alert .... and possibly be released Monday? ...... but ... you know, that's just what I heard. I hope it's true.

I can't comment on this subject due to me almost taking out a whole practice tree event due to drinking and a touchy front brake on a scooter.

FYI- a few yrs ago.

Apperently at MG there is no age. As long as you can drive a JR dragster you can ride a golf cart or scooter. IT SAYS 16, but its NEVER been policed.......and it really bothers me.

A long time ago there was an age limit at 16. I have seen close to many accidents at Maple Grove. I would hope the parents would take the responsibility of their child's mistake if something were to happen.

Rules are made because somebody does something stupid, ergo my favorite tag in a Halloween costume, "WARNING: Cape does not enable user to fly."

The track shouldn't "have" to make & enforce rules... where are the PARENTS?

A little parenting would solve a lot of problems in this country.

I'm with Beard on this. Parents need to take some responsibility. You can't expect the track to be able to raise or control the kids all hours of the day. I saw the same thing at the track this weekend. A kid around 14 was drivng one of the big mule type ATV's up and down the rain soaked pits and when I saw it once it was probably running at least 25 mph+. If you want your kids to be able to drive those things take them to the right place not around 30k race cars and especially groups of people.

Oh you are right. When I said it has never been policed. They need to find the parents. Hows this? Your kid gets caught on a scooter under the age of 16, you sit out a week. Second offense, two weeks......so on and so forth. I know the kids get bored at the track, heck, I race and I get bored sometime.........but maybe instead of letting your kid run off on the scooter.....spend some time with them!! Sorry, its a topic that really bugs me!

hows this :

as you pull into the track , there is a sign on the right .... says no alcohol permitted ..

the drinking combined with the lights not being on for all of the racers in the pits contributed to that accident ... more towards the drinking.(moonshine)

now for the most part , people have fun without going out in a helicopter .. but it only takes a few to ruin it for many .

don't golf carts / pit bike have keys ?

don't golf carts have front / rear lights ? ... if not should they be mandatory ?

simply remove the keys .. all they could do is sit on it then , giving them something to do ..

my son doesn't like the track at all ... being there alot while he was a young child .. now 15 years .. he still wouldn't ride something he shouldn't .. he knows better.

there should be an area, kids can go , away from all of the action .. away from the noise .. at the track .. or just stay home ..

theres a place where Eric and I pit ,near the tech shack thats safe .. quiet

we could pit somewhere else..(its a non reserve pit spot...well untill now... Hum)

oh wait .. theres alot of dog poop down there now ...

so, that might be another topic huh ?

maybe > pickupyourdogspoopplease signs are needed ~!

or are the same parents letting there kids ride the golf carts ... own dogs to ?

oh boy .. so glad I aint in charge .. to make these BIG decissions..

>> did I mention, there is no BONEUS points next season ?

i know i was never allowed to ride even a bike when i was 16. my old man wouldnt let me. ive seen some superstock guy let his like 12 year old son back the car out of the trailer (not under power). even with the engine off, its still a hazard.
