RAM Racing N/A series.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4-1i69F8EY

My cars run was at 4:06 into the video. This was the pass that I lifted and tore the front suspension up. First pass with the new combination that day (off the trailer footbraking) was an 8.77 @ 156.6.

Next race I had a different front suspension setup, untuned, this was the only pass it hooked that day.

Need to find a happy medium between the two setups.

Todd, too bad you torn it up BUT there was no reason to lift on that pass.

Worse case is it would have got up on the wheelies bar and the rear tires would have spun in the air, I've done it many timesWink including yesterday.

Next round tighten the front shocks an 1/8th of a turn and it still launches wheels up, on the bars but the back tires don't leave the ground!

Here's 1.33 60 foot with the back tires from a few weeks ago...

You're going to have to wheelie to hook that much power on those tires or kill the launch with the 7531 but what fun would that be!

I have no excuse other than drive error. First two passes it launched with the tires 6 to 8 inches off the ground. First two passes it also showed wheel speed (on the data logger) 1 second into the run which is why the front end stayed at a reasonable level.

The pass I lifted it did not show wheel speed (i.e. dead hooked) and it just climbed.

Couple errors on my part were setting the wheelie bars way too high thinking the bars were causing the spin due to unloading...don't believe that to be the case looking back.

Also, being out of the car for a year, my driving was very rusty and it caught me off guard and I made the wrong decision in lifting.

With me fighting mechanical issues all season, I'm sure my driving won't improve much here the rest of the season. I've had the engine apart twice, if not three times fixing stupid parts failures. But the best quality parts and am plauged with stupid failures.

BTW, I think I'm past my days of liking wheelies. Tearing up parts and wasting money isn't much fun anymore. Not only that, but having dropped the car three times already, my confidence in riding them out just isn't there. Can't seem to tell my right foot to stay down when it comes up high.

Maybe it's time to get out... Frown

Been there, done that.

With seat time you'll be fine, just don't lift unless it's going to the wall/guardrail and if you land in the marbles/out of the groove like Butch Kemp did, get out of it and come back another day...

The only reason he wrecked is because he didn't abort after he landed which I'm and many others are guilty of as well!Eek

Yep, I'm guilty of that too. If you notice, the pass I lifted, I too got back in the throttle. I lifted about 1/2 track when the back tires kicked out. Turns out the some shock oil leaked from the compression shock knob being sheared off.

This winter the car will be coming apart and I'll be cutting the cage out to make some long needed safety upgrades. Will most likely put either a 25.5 cage, or 25.2 or even the new 25.3 spec, but the latter would only be done for future resale value. 25.5 is all it needs to meet it's current needs although the cage specs aren't all that different, plus I know someone who works doing these that works pretty cheap. I'm convinced you like working on the car far more than you like racing it!Wink

As for resale, if that's your intents, sell it now to buy/build your dream race car before you put anymore time and $ into it.

Nah, no dream car that I know of. I just enjoy the fabrication process and this car is just a practice piece.

The theory of pulling the next gear to calm it down when just about on the bumper is also bull!

I did that once and it just climbed higher!

I was lucky that when I lifted and it started to come back down I hit the throttle again. I bounced it a little bit, but didn't damage anything except for my pride!

It certainly can catch you off gaurd!
