I just want to thank Craw's racing for all his help. We have never purchased parts from his company. yet I called him up for some advice on our motor problem and I was not on the phone 5 minutes and he new the problem. Fred gave his time to help me even though I was not a previous customer. He told me to call him after finishing each part of the corrective action to solve my problem, some calls after hours, now thats service. Thank You for all your help I'm glad that I was referred to you by a fellow racer, both of you guy's are good people thanks again for your help.

Not sure if I will get the car done. No points at Qcr this weekend. I might get to try out new slicks, my turn to play!

From what I have been told the compression ratio is only about 7.5-1. Now if you are trying a compression tester in the plug hole it will also read pretty low due to the cam design and overlap. The best thing to do is do a leak down test to see if everything is sealing right. I usually do it at 50psi as doing it with 100psi is way to hard to hold the crank from not moving. |

Hey Thanks for the info! I did a leak down test after I talked to Craw,s just as he thought the valve were leaking. The motor was put together with the wrong installed height on the springs, this was before I started doing my on work recently. I lapped the valves and dye tested no leaks. leak down had a 10% leak better than the 80% I started with,

80% leakage with only 35 runs....wow!! Honestly 10% is alot better, but still has some room for improvement. Do you know if the cam is degreed in to specs? These motors will be really slow if the cam is not put in properly. While it is off, I would put a degree wheel on it and check it. If you need some help, I have all the tools to do it. Send me a pm if you need any help or tools. Nothing worse than having a kids engine not running right. You are right, they are fun to build.

I did not degree the cam in on the prevous build, to quote the water boy my momma said, my momma said if you want it fixed you need to learn yourself and drink plenty of high quality H20. Thanks for the offer I might take you up on that, let me see how it goes together first. I appreciate the offer.
before the rebuild now it runs in the 9'S. This was rebuilt at the end of the points season. I thought the 8.90's was to slow for this motor. |

This motor broke a cam last year we missed 5 weeks of points getting it back. Thought we had a chance for a third championship in a row but finished 5 points out in third place. We finished strong with a motor that was not right.

It depends on how much the weight package is, but the tunnel ports were wicked fast motors for their time. I would think it should go atleast 830 as lighter packages could go in the 790's with them. If the cam was not degreed in, I would bet the farm that it is retarded. Usually you have to mess with them to get it right. I had a motor that was 6 degrees retarded and it would only run 9.20. I had to slot the cam gear holes to get it right and it then ran 8.58, so I think you have alot left on the table. Let me know if you want to do it.

I put the motor together I will degree in probably in the next couple days, busy schedule this week. I beleive it was 1 degree advanced when degreed in after the cam snapped. I did measure the old springs that I took out they were shorter than the new ones I geuss that cam is hard on springs. Thanks for the offer I was hoping to build this one just to see if I can make it run like it should! It is kind of a challenge for me now. Who won at pittsburgh this weekend?

No problem on the info and I am sure it will run better if the cam is off. We moved up to the 13-17 year old class. I built a 3.5"x3" terminator engine and am sorting out the tuning of it and the clutch. I finally got a handle on it this weekend, I think....lol. Today we lost on a holeshot. We dialed a 7.90 and it ran a 7.904 |
