MORRISON, Colo. (July 25, 2009) – The contingent from SRCA Dragstrip in
Great Bend, Kan., scored the team title this weekend at the NHRA Jr.
Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals presented by JR Race Car at
Bandimere Speedway. With five cars in the final round the team racked
up 43 points, far above the teams tied for second place. The team from
Texas Raceway (Kennedale, Texas) and Bandimere Speedway’s squad each
scored 27 points and Texas Raceway came in second on the tie-breaker.
Three local racers earned individual championships over the weekend.
Littleton’s Jeremy Romero (racing for Julesburg Dragstrip) scored the 11
Year Old title; Travis Thorsten of Arvada (racing for Pueblo Motorsports
Park) won in the 12 Year Old group; and Kyle Cramsey of Morrison won in
the Visions Race Cars Jr. Comp class. Another Arvada racer, Breanna
Johnson (racing for Julesburg Dragstrip), was runner-up in the 13 Year
Old class.
Romero beat out Kallee Mills (racing for Thunder Valley Raceway) of Sand
Springs, Okla.; while Thorsen beat Boise, Idaho’s Wes Morris (racing for
Firebird Raceway); and Cramsey beat Bruce Adsero of Des Moins, Wash.
Two racers from team SRCA squared off in the 8-9 Year Old final. Bailey
Jones and Brendan Mock, both from Wichita, Kan., faced off and Jones
took the win. Mikayla Greene, Lawson, Mo., (racing for Kansas City
Int’l Raceway) beat another SRCA racer, Chanler Morlen of Liberal, Kan.,
in the the 10 Year Old class while 13 Year Old runner-up Johnson was
bested in the final by Burleson, Texas’s Taryn Greene (racing for North
Star Dragway). Brandon Seraphine, Fullerton, Calif., (racing for Barona
1/8-Mile Dragstrip) grabbed the win in the 14 Year Old group, ousting
Jacob Novacek of Wichita, Kan. (racing for SRCA). Panora, Iowa’s Dalton
Dorsett (racing for Eddyville Raceway Park) beat another SRCA team
member in the 15 Year Old category when he jettisoned Kyle Wiens of
Newton, Kan. Two racers from California faced off in the 16-17 Year Old
final. Chaysse Trimp from Ione (racing for Sacramento Raceway) took the
win over Mark Whynaught of Oceanside (racing for Barona).
In action off the track, the contingent from Las Vegas Motor Speedway
garnered the coveted Team Spirit award. Their western warriors theme,
complete with ghostly cowboy and blow-up bull costumes, along with their
constant presence in the grandstands cheering on their team earned them
the title.
